What is a Paradox ?

A Paradox is a statement that deny its own truth or it can be true as well untrue at the same time. But the statement of the paradox always make sense. This makes them stand out and play an important role in literature and everyday life. Beyond that, they can be entertaining brain teasers.

Examples

1. The common example of paradox is “Liar paradox”. It is most popular as well as the simplest paradox of all time.

Statement: He/She is a liar.

Explanation:

·      If he or she is a liar, then these words must also be a lie.

·      If he or she can’t lie, then these the words will become a lie.

Thus, whether it’s the truth or a lie remains unknown.

2. The next one which is my favorite paradox is “Grandfather Paradox”. This paradox works on time traveling, I know time travel is also not possible today but may be in future so let’s take assumption of time traveling.

Statement: You go in to past and killed your grandfather when he was child.

Explanation:

·      Now if you somehow invented a time machine and go back into past and killed your grandfather when he was child that means your father will never born and so you will not born.

·      But if you not born that means you never created a time machine and you never go back in time and not killed your grandfather…. So you are still alive and the cycle continues up to infinity.

Thus, whether you killed your grandfather or not will always be a mystery.
